I have made my video demonstration on jing and it has been sent to my screencast account. Know I am trying to figure out how to get it into my blog. I have spent hours on it. I am trying everything that I can think of and I am having no luck. Just when I start feeling like things are making sense I get caught in a rut. I will pull together the streagth to keep on working at it.

I am going to be adding a Screencast demonstration to this blog. I am learning how to do it using Jing. The demonstration will be an audio and video demonstration showing how to configure the Firefox extension for del.icio.us. I have spent a while tonight messing around with how to do it. I think it will be fun putting it together.

I have been working on the RSS feeds from Scopus and Web of Science. I am having a really hard time with this one. I have viewed the recordings from the chats and looked through the discussion boards a few times, but the more I work at it the more confused I am getting. I am trying to work on it a little then walk away, so that when I come back to it I come back with a fresh view.

I just got back from Bermuda and I then went onto the class chat. I really enjoyed my time in Bermuda, but I realize that I need to get moving tomorrow.

Well I am in Bermuda and I am loving it. We went on a Famous Houses tour, shopping, on a Catamaran, and to Horseshoe Bay Beach. I brought some books along, but I was unsure if access to the Internet was going to be available, so I did not bring my computer. Fortunately, my husband brought his. It cost 100.00 for unlimited Internet access on the boat, but my husband has a wireless card and when the boat is at port he can use it. Before I left for Bermuda I tried to get as much work done as possible. I started working on the Scopus project. I finished the Scopus searches and the Google scholar searches and then I started sending my Google reader some feeds. When I get home I will work out home to send the RSS feeds to Mr. Tomer.

I have saved 100 resources on "open access" through Scopus and I entered them into Refworks. I loved how it was set up to do it automatically through Scopus!

I am getting ready to go the Bermuda, so I am trying to get some stuff done ahead of time. I have been reading through the Scopus tutorial to get myself ready to do some more searching. I have learned some new things (ex. you can pull up a journal list instead of a title list.) I think this will prove to be helpful in some instances.

I have started working on the Scopus project. I went into the Pitt databases and have started looking around. I registared for a Scopus account so that I could save my list.

I have started working on my WorldCat assignment. I have found 50 items that I think would be helpful resources in scholarly journal publishing. The assignment is to export the 50 items in a RIS format and then import them into GoogleDocs and then to deliver them through email to our instructor. When I went to export the items through a RIS format, the only export option I saw on the program was CSV. I am unfamiliar with CSV. I went ahead and saved the information through CSV in my documents, then I went to GoogleDocs and imported the information into GoogleDocs. Next, I edited the spreed sheet in GoogleDocs to make it look nice. I am hoping that this procedure is correct. I am asking around to see if there is a better approach.

I have submitted my Bookmarking URL. I figured out how to do RefGrab. After I added the extra bookmarks I added tags through the RefWorks edit area. I feel pretty good that I got this done and I learned a lot from doing it.

June 5, 2008

I still have all of my bookmarks tagged. I am still working on exporting my Del.icious tags. I am using an RSS feed instead of RIS format, although it only will transfer 31 items at a time. So I have to use RefGrab to get the remaining 9 of my 40 tags. Learning how to use RefGrab is my new mission.

June 3, 2008

I have bookmarked 4o items to the following accounts;Del.icious, Connetea, and Zotero. I have exported the information form Connetea and Zotero into an RIS format. I am having trouble doing the same thing with Del.icious. With Connetea and Zotero I took the RIS format and imported it into RefWorks and it is all ready to be edited and sent out as a URL to my instructor through RefShare. I am still working on how to do all of this with Del.icious.

June 1, 2008

I spent the weekend saving some websites as bookmarks. I have been using Del.icious for awhile now, but after this weekend I think that I will start using Zotero for more bookmarking. It had proven to be easier. With Zotero you do not need to login. It also pulls up quicker than Del.icious and Connetea. I also thought that Connetea worked better on Mozilla Firefox. It seemed to have less blocks on Mozilla Firefox and it was quicker. After getting used to Zotero's set up I found it to be very user friendly. Having all three screens visible at one time is nice.
