Tommorrow is the last day of the classes. I learned a lot from this class. Here is a list of some things that I have added to this blog. Please take a look!
-Zemanta, a Pie Chart, a Video Bar, Images, and a list of favorite sites.
It has been fun blogging with you!
Even thought the course is over, I will keep on blogging!

July 30, 2008

It is getting close to the end of the semester. I am trying to finish/clean everything up. It has been a learning experience that has given me a much bigger picture of the tools that are available to help me retrieve, store and use information. I know that these tools will prove beneficial in my job as a librarian.

July 29, 2008

Today I have been trying to add some sound to my Web Page. I am working on adding some Jazz music. I have some links to different components to my web page, but today I am working on establishing tables to add a toolbar. I have been close with both of these endevors, but I am not there yet. If I figure it out, I will let you know what was successful. Stay tunned.

Today I have added a video bar on the subject of Web Design.
I love the one Titled "Design Code." It is a man who rappes a song that is all about web designing. You have to check it out.

July 25, 2008

I have been having some trouble getting my information sent to the Pitt server. Friends have been very helpful. I follow all of the procedure that have been stated, but my computer isn't cooperating with me. I am going to keep at it.

July 18th, 2008

I am teaching myself how to develop a chart on Google docs and add it to my blog. A chart put on a blog can changed and automatically updated on my blog.
For the purpose of this experiment, I have developed my pie chart based on the % of our grade that each assignment is worth.

A graphical despiction of a very simple html d...Image via Wikipedia I just installed Zemanta. I am trying it for the first time tonight. Since we are learning about HTML and Web Designs I thought that I would try plugging in those words in this text in hopes that we could get some links on those subjects.

I am still working on the Thoreau assignment, but I have been working on my portfolio at the same time. Tonight I taught myself how to add the Google search bar to my home page on my web site. It was sooo exciting when it worked.

July 16,2008

I have started working on making my Portfolio of the course on my own web site. I have used google creator. It is a fun and easy program to work with. Know, I am trying to work through how to make it into a Html (I think I need to use Kompozer) and then I will download it into my documents and then onto the Pitt server. I think I am on the right track. I am trying to work things out by reading all of the discussion board comments and questions. Also, a friend at work has been giving me some tips. Wish me luck!

July 14, 2008

I have started working on the web design assignment. I have been reading books and exploring google creator. My web page has been established, now I need to figure out how to develop it.

July 13,

Hello Blog!
I just got back from the on campus visit. It was nice to see everyone and compare notes on completing the next few assignments. My family came with me on this visit. We stopped at Frank Loyd Wright's "Fallingwater" on the way in. Then, we went to a Pirates game on Sat. night. We ate at the well known "Original" hot dogs in Oakland and we tried "The Primanti" sandwiches at the Pirates game. We had a lot of fun getting to know the city.

It rained at Dorney, but it was awesome! As I was running through the rain to get to the car I realized that sometimes when things seem like they can't get any worse, you realize how great they are!

July 4, 2008

I stayed up late last night and finished the assignment, so as a treat I get to go to Dorney Park today (worry free!) I hope everyone enjoys their 4th of July celebrations!

July 3, 2008

I have been preparing myself to do the Koha Assignment. I decided to pick entries related to Web Designs. I was thinking that I may be needing some of these book soon, so finding appropriate ones through this assignment would come in handy. I know that there is no repeats, so I hope that this is not a popular subject amongst us. I have picked several books out and I have written down their ISBN #'s. So, the game will begin!!

July 2, 2008

I can't believe that it is July already! It makes me realize that our next visit is sooner than I thought. I am looking forward to visiting again. I am going to go to the Baseball game. My Husband, son and daughter are coming in with me for this visit. My cousin and his family (who live in Latrobe) are coming in to Pittsburgh to join us at the Baseball game too.

June 28, 2008

I have made my video demonstration on jing and it has been sent to my screencast account. Know I am trying to figure out how to get it into my blog. I have spent hours on it. I am trying everything that I can think of and I am having no luck. Just when I start feeling like things are making sense I get caught in a rut. I will pull together the streagth to keep on working at it.

June 25, 2008

I have been working on my e-prints assignment. I have started adding PDF files into my respiratory. I hope that I am doing it right!

Monday, June 23, 2008

June 23, 2008

I am going to be adding a Screencast demonstration to this blog. I am learning how to do it using Jing. The demonstration will be an audio and video demonstration showing how to configure the Firefox extension for del.icio.us. I have spent a while tonight messing around with how to do it. I think it will be fun putting it together.

June 20, 2008

I have been working on the RSS feeds from Scopus and Web of Science. I am having a really hard time with this one. I have viewed the recordings from the chats and looked through the discussion boards a few times, but the more I work at it the more confused I am getting. I am trying to work on it a little then walk away, so that when I come back to it I come back with a fresh view.

June 19, 2008

I just got back from Bermuda and I then went onto the class chat. I really enjoyed my time in Bermuda, but I realize that I need to get moving tomorrow.

Tuesday, June 17, 2008

June 17, 2008

Well I am in Bermuda and I am loving it. We went on a Famous Houses tour, shopping, on a Catamaran, and to Horseshoe Bay Beach. I brought some books along, but I was unsure if access to the Internet was going to be available, so I did not bring my computer. Fortunately, my husband brought his. It cost 100.00 for unlimited Internet access on the boat, but my husband has a wireless card and when the boat is at port he can use it. Before I left for Bermuda I tried to get as much work done as possible. I started working on the Scopus project. I finished the Scopus searches and the Google scholar searches and then I started sending my Google reader some feeds. When I get home I will work out home to send the RSS feeds to Mr. Tomer.

Friday, June 13, 2008

June 13, 2008

I have saved 100 resources on "open access" through Scopus and I entered them into Refworks. I loved how it was set up to do it automatically through Scopus!

Wednesday, June 11, 2008

June 11, 2008

I am getting ready to go the Bermuda, so I am trying to get some stuff done ahead of time. I have been reading through the Scopus tutorial to get myself ready to do some more searching. I have learned some new things (ex. you can pull up a journal list instead of a title list.) I think this will prove to be helpful in some instances.

Monday, June 9, 2008

June 9, 2008

I have started working on the Scopus project. I went into the Pitt databases and have started looking around. I registared for a Scopus account so that I could save my list.

Saturday, June 7, 2008

June 7, 2008

I have started working on my WorldCat assignment. I have found 50 items that I think would be helpful resources in scholarly journal publishing. The assignment is to export the 50 items in a RIS format and then import them into GoogleDocs and then to deliver them through email to our instructor. When I went to export the items through a RIS format, the only export option I saw on the program was CSV. I am unfamiliar with CSV. I went ahead and saved the information through CSV in my documents, then I went to GoogleDocs and imported the information into GoogleDocs. Next, I edited the spreed sheet in GoogleDocs to make it look nice. I am hoping that this procedure is correct. I am asking around to see if there is a better approach.

June 6, 2008

I have submitted my Bookmarking URL. I figured out how to do RefGrab. After I added the extra bookmarks I added tags through the RefWorks edit area. I feel pretty good that I got this done and I learned a lot from doing it.

Thursday, June 5, 2008

June 5, 2008

I still have all of my bookmarks tagged. I am still working on exporting my Del.icious tags. I am using an RSS feed instead of RIS format, although it only will transfer 31 items at a time. So I have to use RefGrab to get the remaining 9 of my 40 tags. Learning how to use RefGrab is my new mission.

Tuesday, June 3, 2008

June 3, 2008

I have bookmarked 4o items to the following accounts;Del.icious, Connetea, and Zotero. I have exported the information form Connetea and Zotero into an RIS format. I am having trouble doing the same thing with Del.icious. With Connetea and Zotero I took the RIS format and imported it into RefWorks and it is all ready to be edited and sent out as a URL to my instructor through RefShare. I am still working on how to do all of this with Del.icious.

Sunday, June 1, 2008

June 1, 2008

I spent the weekend saving some websites as bookmarks. I have been using Del.icious for awhile now, but after this weekend I think that I will start using Zotero for more bookmarking. It had proven to be easier. With Zotero you do not need to login. It also pulls up quicker than Del.icious and Connetea. I also thought that Connetea worked better on Mozilla Firefox. It seemed to have less blocks on Mozilla Firefox and it was quicker. After getting used to Zotero's set up I found it to be very user friendly. Having all three screens visible at one time is nice.

May 30, 2008

Well, I am feeling pretty good. I think that I am starting to catch on to how some of these systems work. I made all of my old stuff into new posts, so now my instructor and my peers can view them as RSS feeds instead of having the information just being part of the blogs general layout. I have also subscribed to some of the blogs of other students in the program. I am viewing and reading their blogs in my blog reader. I plan on continuing to write 3x's per week with updates on how the course is going.
This week I have been working on the Bookmarking Assignment. I was already familiar with Del.icious, but now I am working with Connetea and Zotero. I like how you can capture pages of web sites on Zotero. I also like how you can have a multiple collection of files on Zotero. Del. icious and Connetea both keep their logos to capture information on the top of the screen and Zotero keeps theirs on the bottom. This simple difference threw me off a little, but I am getting used to it.

Thursday, May 29, 2008

May 29,2008

I started listening to the course podcasts. They have proven to be very beneficial. The first one was on RSS feeds. I realized that I was doing this all wrong. Because I was adding information to the layout of my blog instead of adding new posts, my new information was was not getting sent as RSS feeds to my instructor or my peers. I reconstructed the site and I think that it is becoming more organized.

Week One of the Course

Started by looking trough the syllabus and reading some of the required readings.

A Little Bit about Me!

My name is Cassy. I am a student at the Unversity of Pittsburgh in the Library Science program. I have been working at a library for 7 years. I started working in the Circulation Department and now I am working in the Reference Department. I have had the opportunity to learn about the ILL process, research geneology, and help with the repair of AV materials. I also work at the Reference desk where I help patrons with questions and the searching of books. I love my job and I look forward to this opportunity to discuss, with you, all the things that I am learning at school and on the job!
